Lesson 7

Endowed with Power

The process of the Endowment Ceremony

Before you go:

  • Schedule an appointment with your Bishop to receive your Living Temple recommend
  • Call the temple and make your appointment to receive your Endowment
  • This checklist is very helpful! The times are just suggestions.

When you arrive:

  • Show your temple recommend to the front desk
  • Women and men go to their separate changing areas/ locker rooms.
  • You will go to a changing stall and change into the temple garment for the first time.

Then you will put on your white clothes. (dress, stockings, shoes)

  • White clothes represent our Savior

    White clothes represents equality

initiatory

This is the first part of the endowment ceremony.

It is the “initiation”to become a priest or priestess in God’s Kingdom,  the preparatory ordinance

The initiatory is a “washing and anointing” to be “ready” to receive your full endowment.

In the Old Testament these ordinances were done to prepare them to participate in the ordinances of the priesthood.

Exodus 40:12-13

12. And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water.

13. And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

  • You will enter a partitioned room, right off the locker room. It is partitioned into 4 parts by curtains. A worker will begin each section.
  • There, you will be symbolically washed, with a drop of water and blessed.
  • Then symbolically anointed, with a drop of oil and blessed.
  • You will be given a new name
  • You will be authorized to wear the Garment of the Holy Priesthood

* please refer to LESSON 5 in this course to review all about the elements and ordinances of the Initiatory portion of the Endowment.

Endowment Ceremony:

Moses 2:1-Moses 5:11 is a GREAT overview of the Endowment. I recommend studying it, before you go to receive your Endowment.

The presentation of the Endowment takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

  • Men and women sit of opposite sides of the room.
  • The is an altar at the front of the room, representing Our savior, His sacrifice, that He is the center of this Endowment, and MUCH more.
  • You will watch a movie presentation that will depict the creation, the fall, Christ's Atonement, and instruction on entering God's presence. Please see LESSON 6 in this course to review all about the elements of this presentation.
  • Throughout the presentation, you will think of yourself as Adam and Eve and make covenants and learn how to re-enter the presence of our God.
  • You will learn signs and tokens that bring you closer to Him.

*Please do not worry about remembering anything. You will have a helper or a temple worker with you at all times to tell you what you need to know!

  • As you move through the presentation, at certain points yo will put on your Temple Ceremony Clothing. Everyone does this at the same time.

5 covenants made in the Endowment ceremony:

*please see LESSON 6 to review each of these promises, in depth!

  • After the presentation is done, you will have an opportunity to participate in the Prayer Circle
  • A few people, including couples will stand in a circle around the altar at the front of the room and say a prayer together. It is a beautiful reminder that we have a very personal relationship with God and our Savior.

Veil:

Hebrews 10:19-20 tells us about the Veil and what it represents:

19. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

20. By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

The veil represents our Savior and only through Him can we return to our Father in Heaven.

  • You will pass through the Veil, with the help of a temple worker to enter the Celestial room, the "presence of our Father in Heaven"

Celestial Room:

  • As you enter the Celestial Room, talk in a quiet voice and remain reverent.
  • You can ponder, read scriptures, pray, quietly ask questions if you have someone there to talk about the temple to, or just sit and feel the beautiful Spirit that is in that room.

After:

  • When you leave the Celestial Room, you return to the locker room, change back into your street clothes and keep the garment on.

Return Often:

Continue your quest to become “endowed with Heavenly Power” and return often to remind yourself of your covenants and to learn what Heavenly Father would have you learn.

Enduring, worshiping, making and keeping covenants has everything to do with what degree we want our relationship with our Savior & Heavenly Father to be!

Exaltation is the Fullness of that relationship!
